Kansas City: Hanz Bronze Boulevard

$25.00

About the album: Suzannah Johannes sings smart, funny, beautiful songs that evoke Rilo Kiley, The Vaselines, and Cat Power. In many ways a paradox, she makes each song her own, even as she pursues recording as an act of deep collaboration. Kansas City: Hanz Bronze Boulevard—was recorded live to tape, mainly over two magical days at Weights and Measures Studio in Kansas City, Missouri in fall 2024. Kansas City is sly and joyful, full of arch lines and unexpected deliveries. Most of the songs were written by Hanz Bronze, Johannes’s long-time friend, who first taught her to play the guitar back in the aughts. The live studio band consists of Jimmy Fitzner, John Nichols, and Mike Stover from The Grisly Hand, Brooke and Mike Tuley from Ad Astra Per Aspera, and David Wetzel from Ghosty. Bill Dolan from 5ive Style, Heroic Doses, and Dolan, Mendel & Wong added his own distinctive guitar tracks. It features Los-Angeles-based (and Kansas City native) drummer and percussionist Josh Adams, who has most recently played with Jon Batiste, Cat Power, and Tim Heidecker. The album is keen, full, alive. (Daniel Hoyt)
